Bring or buy a custom domain — DNS handled for you

Your published app can answer at your own domain. Buy one through Mortar and it connects itself — DNS, nameservers and a free HTTPS certificate, zero manual setup — or point a domain you already own with a short guided DNS step.

How domains work

  • Buy a domain through Mortar: registration, DNS and the HTTPS certificate are all automatic — nothing to configure.
  • Already own one? Connect it — Mortar shows the exact DNS records to add, then verifies and issues the certificate for you.
  • Auto-renew is optional and drives Mortar's own renewal charge to your saved card — it never touches the registrar's own auto-renew.
  • The domain is yours: transfer it out anytime after the standard 60-day ICANN lock.

Frequently asked

Do I need to know anything about DNS?
No for a domain bought through Mortar — it is wired up automatically. Connecting a domain you already own needs one short copy-paste step at your registrar; Mortar shows exactly what to add.
Does the domain come with HTTPS?
Yes — a certificate is issued and kept renewed automatically for every connected domain, bought or brought.
Is the domain really mine?
Yes — domains bought through Mortar are registered in your name and can be transferred out to any registrar after the 60-day ICANN transfer lock.
Do I own the code Mortar generates?
Yes. Every project is a real Django repository you can export in full and run anywhere — there is no proprietary runtime and no vendor lock-in.
